Have you ever actually been to “red state America” or are you just monetizing the culture wars through shallow stereotypes and demonization — just like the mainstream media we come here to get away from?
Seriously, this exact transition has been happening in real life, in places like Kansas, Texas, Florida, Indiana, and so on. It's been widely reported on reputable news services. Read.
Fair point, perhaps I missed the cartoon’s message. Red-state America has been demonized, pilloried, punched, name called, disemployed, hounded, denigrated, lampooned . . . OK, we’re starting with “a”. . . . abused, beaten, crapped on, dissed, economically eschewed (I needed an “e”), fucked, gorged, hated, ill-treated, jacked, kicked, laughed at, marauded upon, neglected, opioded (I was waiting for that opportunity, the “o”), pissed on, quagmired (I had to look up q words for that idea), raped (economically), shitted.on, tweaked, unappreciated, victimized ,wanked like a wanker, xenophobiated (it’s a word now!), yelled at and zugzwanged for so long it’s hard to even see the phrase ‘REd State” used derogatorily as a human type descriptor without soul vomiting all over the universe. Sorry!
What I can’t imagine is why majorities, or at least pluralities, of voters in red states keep putting authoritarian, misogynistic, homophobic, christian nationalists in positions of power. Why?
I don’t think that’s an accurate description, generally, of the red state politicians. Some perhaps embody some of those traits. But they seem as a whole a form of shrill stereotyping and reductive almost demonizations. Most “red state conservatives” seem to me to advocate for separation of powers in the US Constitution rather than authoritarianism, many women are among those politicians, so mysoginistic seems very far fetched, homophobic is probably a wild exaggeration (they may be heterosexual themselves but likely are tolerant of others) Christian nationalist is probably the most exaggerated claim — one can’t be for the Constitution and be a true Christian nationalist any more than one can be both a dolphin and a giraffe at the same time. So all in all — I’m not convinced you are correct. ;-)
I’m not trying to convince You of anything. The purpose is to create a dialogue, so we can, at least, understand each other’s points-of-view. I will try not to be “shrill,” although the shrillness argument is something many of us women find offensive.
“Conservative separation of powers” is another way of saying nullification and sectionalism, which is historically and consistently racist, and only serves the interest of the white male minority. It is inherently anti-democratic (the governing principle, not the party).
Misogyny is simply a disdain or neglect of women’s concerns, and women can be misogynistic, as well. If christian nationalist women believe that white christian “values” are more important than the specific needs of other women, they will vote against women’s best interests, as GOP women often do.
Christian nationalism has become the overriding organizing principle of the Republican Party, as they rally behind Trump and his acolytes. It is authoritarian, in nature, and in no way conservative. They seek perpetual power, without the consent of the governed. We see this as dangerous to those of us who are women, LGBTQ+, ethnic and religious (or non-religious) minorities. Look at the laws that flout the US Constitution, that are meant to suppress minority voting, and relegate women and queer folk to second-class status. Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Missouri, Indiana: and that’s just this month. We are frightened of this type of “conservatism,” unseen in this country since the mid-19th Century.
I welcome and respect your honest dialog. I know you feel honestly about your concerns and I don't demean them in any way. "Shrill" is a term I use without regard to any notion of gender. Men can be shrill. I can be shrill at times. No worries or disparagement intended at all.
Regarding misogyny, evidently women's views of cultural norms and other women's lifestyle choices differ. I would view those as disagreements. I'd reserve the word "misogyny" to mean a denigration and disrespect of women simply for being women, not for any particular cultural preference. Our difference here is perhaps one of definition and language.
I don't view Trump's MAGA energy or his followers as Christian nationalists. I simply disagree with you. The evidence across political organizing, voting, even CRT in schools and cirriculum debates does not suggest to me anything other than cultural debates about voting security and child education and rearing. Reasonable people can disagree and do disagree.
I simply don't see evidence for the claims you make. And yet I don't doubt you honestly believe these things. Perhaps, yes, they are true and accurate of subsets of red state voters and citizens. But I have been an American all my life, born and raised here, family here since 1680. I have spent a lot of time in Red State America (and believe it or not, I'm an economic progressive and social old-school liberal!). I'm not trying to convince you I'm right. Life is a journey for our soul and our consciousness. Perhaps the demons you see are less real than you believe?? And perhaps the individuals you believe are demons are perhaps less than demons and more like you than you believe? And maybe your views will change and evolve with time and experience and evidence and consciousness? Maybe. Maybe not. But whatever your views are, well, I know you're not perhaps big on biblical literature, but as Paul of Tarsus wrote "We see through a glass darkly . . . " It is hard to see reality face to face.
Thank You for sharing Your thoughts with me. I appreciate Your patience.
I don’t see people as demons. I don’t even see people as “good or bad,” or “right or wrong.” People consistently do what is right, from their point-of-view. The question that counts is this: what kind of country shall we create?” I know it was founded, as a nation, as a democratic republic, 246 years ago, but we create it moment to moment. Shall we create an inclusive nation, that honors each and every person, or conversely, shall this be an exclusive nation that has a particular ruling class, and anyone who doesn’t belong in that class is marginalized? I am in favor of the former. The MAGA GOP seems committed to the latter. Slam the door in the face of immigrants, force women to carry a fetus to birth, without regard to the damage done to the woman, disenfranchise black and other minority voters, force LGBTQ+ Americans back into the closet, condemn the poor to generations of poverty. These are the MAGA policies, that they state, themselves. Sounds authoritarian to me. Historically, we tried that. Nullification and sectionalism led to secession. Secession led to civil war. Let’s never go back to that country.
My recollection of I Cor. 13:12 is “for now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” That’s the King James rendition of it, if I remember correctly. The most useful part comes at the end: “then shall I know even as also I am known.” I think we are getting to know each other. That’s what dialogue provides. I rather enjoyed Your assumption that I wouldn’t know of Paul’s epistles. The road to atheism is littered with well-read bibles. 🤣
-False. The left often says this and it's straight up untrue. The US allow the most legal immigrants in the world. It should probably be expanded, but to be opposed to illegal immigration is just simple sense - like the rest of the world.
Opposition to DNC extreme policies of abortion on demand also cause equally extreme counterproposals. Balance could be seen in Michigan's approved amendment.
There is no disenfranchising of to the voters currently. There is a reason WaPo gave Joe Biden 4 Pinocchio's for his constant lies about Georgia's voting laws.
LGBTQIA... There is no reason for teaching gender topics to 3rd graders. None. Not should any biological male compete on a woman's sports team. Otherwise, conversely there should be no harassment, violence or other behavior to the LGBTQIA community either, ever.
Suburban women in “red states,” who previously voted for GOP candidates, or did not vote, are now registering as Democrats, in huge numbers. That’s what the cartoon and I are both referencing.
I suppose when your only popular position is absolving irresponsibility via terminating life, you will create plenty of democrats. I hope KS, et al enjoy becoming the state-wide dem paradises those other dem controlled areas, like B'more, Detroit, Memphis, LA, NOLA, StL, Philly have become over the past couple of generations of dem leadershiip - all those wonderful places where kids can be raised only by people that love them, they get grerat educations, and no one murders each other...unlike those nasty red states that everyone that can possibly get to is moving.
Kill kill kill, we don't care, we need the votes - DNC
My problem is that YOUR denunciations aren't based on actual conversation, just judgement of strangers. Why? Because a cartoon told you to.
We have an avalanche of real, existential crises on our doorstep, this is just more divide and conquer propaganda from an outlet that should know better.
We need empathy. The real kind, hard to give, but given and not demanded. This is just another lazy cartoon supporting the authoritarian status quo. "Red state" Americans are all just moral hypocrites with no real problems. Now that they've been dehumanized, you don't have to feel guilty about silencing and disenfranchising MOST of our own people, because we already know all of their opinions and moral cowardice from these propagandistic cartoons.
So give yourself yet another unearned pat on the back. Those BAD PEOPLE don't deserve basic freedoms or dignity or healthcare or honest government anyway.
Try to bring it up. Some rich guy in an expensive blue state will step in to tell you that you are a bad person because you can't afford to live in Seattle.
It would be interesting to see how red all these states were if the Democrats actually provided basic services to their constituents. Why vote blue when the Republicans can provide prevarication and service the rich just as well as the Democrats?
Instead, we are provided nothing, and told the only difference are these cultural issues, and WHOOPS, a bare majority of people in your state chose wrong. So now you don't get services AND well off Democrats get to feel good mocking your real desperation.
Overwhelmingly tax cuts have favored the rich. And your guess is wrong as I am in 2% if not the 1%. But I have been poor and homeless which does not fit your tidy narrative.
Lol. I fell into the dot com boom and have worked in tech for 30 years. 3 IPO later, I am rich, at least by family standards. I am sure people like you who inherited their wealth still look down on me. The feeling goes both ways.
Great to have more super clever supposed creative types dividing us further into opposing camps. What exactly is the purpose of this cartoon other than to state your affiliation and ridicule your supposed enemy?
Here's the thing - people in "red state america" (HISSSSSS!!!!) are for the most part interchangeable with those from "blue state america" (YAAAYYYYY!!!). They're just people trying to live their lives and do the best they can. Midwit assholes like to ridicule them in the current era because that's what midwit assholes do.
Yes! And it's so much worse coming from one of the few media outlets that mostly gets our awful divide and suffer tactics that support massive wealth inequality.
You think this cartoon is clever? Wow. Democrats to the rescue, huh? I seriously doubt any of you should hold your breath for a delivery of any "choices."
Hey, you elicited an emotional response from me. I get it, you create, and we comment. We react. Well done, Daniel.
I am not a fan of this particular cartoon. It is not clever and doesn't really reflect what I believe as a truth. For me it misses that mark. I do not believe pro lifers are that self serving in their beliefs.
Have you ever actually been to “red state America” or are you just monetizing the culture wars through shallow stereotypes and demonization — just like the mainstream media we come here to get away from?
Matt, are we paying for this?
Put—Leeeze.

Then you lack empathy, no?
"this exact transition has been happening in real life...". What exactly are you referring to? I don't follow.
Suburban women in “red states,” who previously voted for GOP candidates, or did not vote, are now registering as Democrats, in huge numbers. That’s what the cartoon and I are both referencing.
Oh, I see. Yes, that's exactly what the cartoon is saying. You nailed it. Great work!!
I suppose when your only popular position is absolving irresponsibility via terminating life, you will create plenty of democrats. Feel free to list the blue states that have banned abortion, because data.
Shallow. Trope.
Most people in red state America I know will do the responsible thing and have the baby.
I really hope You are just stupid, Nathan. If not, You are cruel, insensitive, and intentionally ignorant.
My problem is that YOUR denunciations aren't based on actual conversation, just judgement of strangers. Why? Because a cartoon told you to.

NS is fucking ignorant.
😄And you sound incredibly sophisticated.
Get help. You are demented.
Then raise it as a single mom with no welfare because the red state cut taxes so the rich could keep more money.
Yup. Humanity has persevered in all manner of hardship.
You know what, that is very true. There is a clear culture in Red America of comradery, community, and also insulation.
Try to bring it up. Some rich guy in an expensive blue state will step in to tell you that you are a bad person because you can't afford to live in Seattle.
