The way the media talks about the Titian vs. how they talk about the hundreds of migrants who drowned are night and day. It reminds me a lot of how the media talked about Ukrainian refugees vs. middle eastern refugees.
The last time I remember reports talking about a refugee's death being tragic was when that poor Syrian boy's body washed ashore in 2015.
Ps. This goes without saying - the loss of life at the Titanic was tragic and I’m not trying to downplay the severity of loss.

The reason why this was such a big story was likely due to the mystery of it. Human nature.
The facts in the case of the refugees were known the moment they drowned. Had the fate of the Titan been known immediately, it also would have received much less coverage.
This is the American way - distract me please so that I don't have to "think" about what is happening in my country and our role in the world.
