The Desensitized
Only in America can four mass shootings happen in one day, and people barely blink. We’ve become so desensitized to the endless parade of gun deaths that the breaking news of the next mass attack turned into into background noise. After Sandy Hook, when 20 little children along with 6 adults were killed, and nothing changed, I knew we were screwed. If that didn’t move the needle, what would? And no, this isn’t coming from someone who hates the Second Amendment. I am a strong believer in it. But come on, we must have basic gun regulations. Universal background checks, red flag laws, a ban on high-capacity magazines, and a license to own a gun, just like driving a car.
If the only people who were killed and affected by these massacres were the ones who believed the deaths of innocent people were worth the cost to have an unlimited Second Amendment that would be one thing. But sadly, that’s not the case.

Isn’t it the Democrats in recent polls that believe political violence is justified by a far larger margin than those on the Republican side? So who is it normalizing violence?
Desensitized by design, what are four mass shootings when we are already so numb of watching thousands starve and march to their deaths? We are now so indifferent to the inhuman treatment of an entire nation: to prisoners being gang-raped, to hungry children being used as target practice, and to the all-too-familiar, repetitive sight of exploding buildings and bodies.
Such death and destruction no longer shocks us. No, we need Hollywood's special effects to make our hair stand up, to cause us to gasp and quiver with fear. Decades of death and destruction have been broadcast to the masses, glorified by our action heroes, and now applaud the arrival VR games which allows us to become the murderous action hero.
We have so succeeded in nurturing and becoming a Zombie Nation, where the masses are completely desensitized to the "banality of evil," and the few who have not been completely desensitized , escape the horror of reality by allowing themselves to be consumed by addictive and abusive distractions.
This is by design. The cruelty that war-mongers inflict on others far away ensures our continued indifference and inaction when that same cruelty is inflicted on our own people.
