The Pentagon fails its fifth audit in a row
“…the Pentagon only managed to account for 39 percent of its $3.5 trillion in assets.”
Can we please get Pentagon transparency on literally any other issue, please?

Wish we could tell the IRS “sorry, I can only account for 39 percent of what my employer paid me this year.”
Auditing books depends on the double-entry system. Any government that creates its own currency is outside of that structure.
We could stand a whole lot more transparency, but there's no way to actually audit the military.
We can realize how awful and wasteful it is, but the accounting will never be correct.
